Images of Finland - Country and People 3 October 2009 - 10 January 2010
The first exhibition abroad of the Association of Finnish Fine Arts Foundations Images of Finland - Country and People was on show at the Prins Eugens
Waldemarsudde Museum in Stockholm from 3 October 2009 until 10 January 2010. The exhibition consists of some 80 works from the so called Golden Age of
Finish Art ranging from the 1850's to the 1920's. Many of the most famous Finnish artists of that period are represented, e.g. Akseli Gallen-Kallela,
Albert Edelfelt, Helene Schjerfbeck, Pekka Halonen and Elin Danielsson.
During the 19th century the quest for national identity in Finland turned the attention of artists towards nature and common people. Painters, writers
and composers began all alike to look for the visage of the fatherland with the aspiration to establish Finland as an independent nation through means of arts.
The exhibition Images of Finland gives a comprehensive picture of the country and its people. The subjects of the art works are the forests, fields
and lakes of Finland and people living in the countryside.
The exhibition has received financial support from Fortum, Nordea, Stora-Enso and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland as well as from various foundations in Finland and Sweden.
